PRELUDE 1 Episode Description: In this first recording of Safe Space, we introduce you to the initiative that we started together with ROM for kunst og arkitektur in the summer of 2020 in Oslo. We invited artist Gabrielle Paré and urban planner Tina Lam over to talk about the origin of the project: an attempt to create a conversation platform around diverse voices and initiatives to question the hegemony of the majority in the architectural profession. This conversation was moderated by Safe Space Collective members, Bui Quy Son, Paul-Antoine Lucas and Armelle Breuil, and recorded on April 10, 2021.

Historically, publishing has been an essential platform for artists to disseminate their works, ideas and aims. It is also – as Norwegian artist Guttorm Guttormsgaard powerfully argued – a perfect example of collective, distributed, discursive production. Don’t rest, narrate contains commissioned artworks and new texts, brief studies of key experiments in art and radical publishing, reprints of texts on subjects ranging from collective production to licensing and archiving, and a bibliography giving pointers for further reading. Designed to inform and stimulate creation, discussion and study, the book’s unusual, non-linear three-section format renders visible and tangible the performative dimension of our interactions with books.
Edited by PRAKSIS founders Nicholas John Jones and Rachel Withers, it has been developed in dialogue with and features contributions from PRAKSIS residents Vika Adutova, Maria Gordana Belić, Eva Funk, Araiz Mesanza, Daniela Müller, Iz Öztat, Gabrielle Paré and Per Westerlund. Also featured are writings and ideas from Guttorm Guttormsgaard, Hannah Hiaasen, özgür k, Maria Lind, Martin Berner Mathiesen, Ellef Prestsæter and Eva Weinmayr. The design was developed in collaboration with Eller med a. It is published by Torpedo Press. A big thank you to Kulturrådet and Stiftelsen Fritt Ord for supporting production.
Don’t rest, narrate evolved from research carried out during PRAKSIS’s seventh residency, For a rainy day – Publishing as a site of collectivisation, held in autumn 2017 in collaboration with the publisher Torpedo and designers Eller med a.
Sep 17, 2017: Praksis Residency, For a rainy day, publishing as a site of collectivization
September 17 - October 17, 2017
I was very fortunate to get to participate in the recent PRAKSIS residency, entitled For a rainy day: publishing as a site of collectivization. It's been an intense month of gathering, collecting and carrying one another along individual and collaborative artistic processes. Thanks to all my fellow residents for being so generous and committed to this time together. It's been so meaningful.
Join us in Blaker at the Guttormsgaard Archive, where we will be installing an exhibition and performing some interventions within the archive itself.
